The MF-08 works on the principle of selective photothermolysis: pulsed light is delivered so that specific targets in the skin absorb it and convert it to heat while surrounding tissue is spared. This idea was first described by Anderson and Parrish in 1983 and remains the basis of modern IPL and laser skin treatment. In practice, the IPL component is absorbed mainly by melanin in hair and pigmented spots and by haemoglobin in small blood vessels, generating localized heat at those targets.

The E-Light approach adds Radio Frequency energy alongside the light. RF is a high-frequency electromagnetic current that passes into the dermis and gently raises tissue temperature, which helps drive light energy toward its target and supports collagen response for firmer, smoother-looking skin. Combining IPL and RF means the light dose alone does not have to carry the full workload, which can make treatment more comfortable across a range of clients.

Two design details make the technology practical. First, the handpiece accepts different optical filters, so the operator can bias the output toward hair, pigment, or vascular work rather than using one fixed band for everything. Second, an epidermis-cooling contact tip keeps the skin surface cool during a pulse, protecting the outer layer while the energy reaches its intended depth. The system uses combined water, air, and semiconductor cooling to hold the handpiece at a low working temperature.

Which skin types is it suitable for?

IPL and E-Light treatments respond differently across the Fitzpatrick skin phototype scale, and darker skin generally carries higher risk with light-based devices. The filter-changeable handpiece gives the operator room to adjust output, but every client should be assessed first and a test spot is recommended. Very dark or recently tanned skin may not be a good candidate.

How many sessions are usually needed?

Light and RF treatments are typically done as a course rather than a single visit, because hair grows in cycles and pigment or vascular targets often need repeat passes.
