How It Works

The CF-08 works on the principle of selective photothermolysis, first described by Anderson and Parrish in 1983: a laser wavelength, energy level, and pulse duration are matched so that a chosen target in the tissue absorbs the light while nearby structures are largely spared. For the 2940nm Er:YAG wavelength, that target is water. Skin is mostly water, and water absorption reaches a strong peak right at 2940nm, so the beam is absorbed almost entirely within a very thin surface layer.
